Diatomaceous earth also known as D.E., diatomite, is a soft, siliceous sedimentary rock which is fine white to off-white powder. The powder is derived from organisms known as diatoms. Diatoms are algae-like plants that have existed for millions of years and are among the oldest living creatures on the planet. When diatoms die, they leave behind a chalky white powder known as diatomite, which is then used to make diatomaceous earth.
Types of diatomaceous earth powders
1) Food-grade DE – Used on pets, humans, and gardens and is safe for consumption.
2) Filter-grade DE – Ideal for pool filters but less safe for humans and animals.
Detoxifies the body
D.E. food-grade powder is naturally very dehydrating and detoxifying. This is the action that kills harmful microbes.
How to use it?
Add 1 tbsp of food grade diatomaceous earth to water, juice, yogurt or smoothies. It’s best used on an empty stomach, so drink at least one hour before eating. Take 10 days on for desired results.
Filters Swimming Pool
DE filters are simple to operate and are effective in removing cysts, algae, and asbestos from water.
Acts as an Exfoliant
DE acts an excellent exfoliator which removes microscopic deposits of oil, dirt and dead skin cells.
Tips: Mix DE with water (roughly 1 part DE to 3 parts water) in a bowl. You can add more DE for a more paste like mixture (for a mask) or more water (for a facial scrub). Apply gently on your face with circular motions. Leave the mixture on your face for 2-5 minutes allowing it to dry.
Wash the dried mixture off your face using water and a cloth, be thorough, Avoid your eyes and mouth to prevent irritation.
Get Rid of Bedbugs
If you are bugged up with blood-sucking bugs in the house then D.E is all you need.
D.E powder acts as a desiccant which dried out bedbugs. It kills the bedbugs by absorbing the natural oily protective layer of their skin and dehydrating the bug. To permanently eliminate bedbugs, you need to apply it to all areas of your home that may harbor them.
Strengthens Teeth & Bones
D.E is a naturally occurring siliceous sedimentary rock. Silica is essential for the formation of the hard outer enamel that protects our teeth. So use it as a paste or add it your daily toothpaste.
